We built the rooms after the kitchen was already famous. That order still shows — ask anyone at the front desk which came first.

The kitchen came first.
Taste of Tibet started as a fourteen-table room near M.G. Marg — recipes passed down, a wood-fired kitchen, and word that moved one table at a time until it became Gangtok's hardest reservation. The move into The Dolkar Hotel changed the address. The kitchen team, and the recipes, didn't change at all.

The Dolkar Hotel is named for the founder's grandmother — Dolkar, a name that means White Tara, a figure associated with compassion in Tibetan Buddhist tradition. It felt right for a hotel that wanted to be warm before it wanted to be impressive.
We opened with ten rooms and one rule: nothing here is for show. Every material was chosen because it earned its place, not because it photographs well.
